Intersections

From 2013 - 2017, I served as a consultant for the Intersections project at the University of Houston’s Mitchell Center, a project that manifest itself at the annual CounterCurrent festival. Two of the main highlights were a mural by eL Seed on the university campus and Ghana Think Tank’s Mobile Mosque project.

Halfway through this multi-year project, I reached out to an old friend and collaborator, artist eL Seed and was able to have him paint a large scale mural on campus. Not just on campus, but a mural, in Arabic, on the face of the Education Building!

The project culminated with an opportunity to collaborate with Maria del Carmen Montoya of Ghana Think Tank. Responding to a local need from a global think tank, we debuted the Mobile Mosque at CounterCurrent 2017. The Mobile Mosque was programmed by Houston’s Muslim community and traveled from place to place across the city for one week, offering a space for prayer, poetry, music, art, conversation, workshops as well as a fundraiser for Syrian refugees.
