Aao Mil Baithen

Aao MilBaithen  is an experimental arts initiative started by SpaceShift Collective. It uses creative placemaking and innovative arts interventions to imagine how Devon, a South Asian neighborhood in Chicago’s West Ridge Neighborhood, can create opportunities for its diverse communities to come together. 

The first experiment was a Games and Chai night, right on Devon and Talman Avenues.

One week later, we hosted a pop-up Open Mic, people shared poetry, music and songs, from multiple generations, with our youngest participant at 4 years old!

The street corner engagement continued with the Devon Dance Party, with people learning both Kathak and Poppin’.

What was meant to be three experimental events led to a fourth larger one, to really test how much we could do on the same corner, which led to the Get Down on Devon, three featured musical artists and a really special truck!
